چکیده

In this article, we investigate the stochastic resonance (SR) effect in a finite array of noisy bistable systems with nearest-neighbor coupling driven by a weak time-periodic driving force. The array is characterized by a collective variable. By means of numerical simulations, the signal-to-noise ratio (SNR) and the gain are estimated as functions of the noise and the interaction coupling strength. A strong enhancement of the SR phenomenon for this collective variable in comparison with SR in single unit bistable systems is observed. Gains larger than unity are obtained for some parameter values and multifrequency driving forces, indicating that the system is operating in a non-linear regime albeit the smallness of the driving amplitude. The large SNR values observed are basically due to the fact that the output fluctuations are small and short lived, in comparison with their typical values in a linear regime. A non-monotonic behavior of the SNR with the coupling strength is also obtained.

Noise-enhanced SNR gain in parallel array of bistable oscillators

For a sinusoidal signal, buried in white Gaussian noise, as an input to a parallel array of bistable oscillators, it is reported that conditions exist where the signal-to-noise ratio gain exceeds unity, for both subthreshold and suprathreshold sinusoids. The performance of infinite arrays is closely approached by finite arrays of moderate size, representing a novel method of applying the stocha...

Noise improvement of SNR gain in parallel array of bistable dynamic systems by array stochastic resonance

We report the regions where a signal-to-noise ratio (SNR) gain exceeding unity exists in a parallel uncoupled array of identical bistable systems, for both subthreshold and suprathreshold sinusoids buried in broadband Gaussian white input noise. Due to independent noise in each element of the parallel array, the SNR gain of the collective array response approaches its local maximum exhibiting a...

Potential energy landscape and finite-state models of array-enhanced stochastic resonance.

Noise and coupling can optimize the response of arrays of nonlinear elements to periodic signals. We analyze such array-enhanced stochastic resonance (AESR) using finite-state transition rate models. We simply derive the transition rate matrices from the underlying potential energy function of the corresponding Langevin problem. Our implementation exploits Floquet theory and provides useful the...

Stochastic Finite Fault Modeling for the 16 September 1978 Tabas, Iran, Earthquake

The main objective of this study is estimating acceleration time history of 16 September 1978 Tabas earthquake incorporating the seismological/geological source-path and site model parameters by using finite-fault simulation approach. The method generalizes the stochastic ground-motion simulation technique, developed for point sources, to the case of finite faults. It subdivides the fault plane...

The Generation of Earthquake PGA Using Stochastic Finite Fault Method in Alborz Region

Time-history analysis is defined as a kind of dynamic analysis increasingly used in design of structures and evaluation of existing ones. One of the important issues in the Time-history analysis is selecting earthquake records. In this case, seismic design provisions states that time histories shall have similar source mechanisms, geological and seismological features with region under study. A...
